The Faltering Fullback – Finsbury Park, N4
We couldn’t have a list of top North London pubs without including this local gem. From the front, it looks like a regular pub. But round the back? A multi-level, plant-covered beer garden that feels like it’s been pinched from a fairytale. Sports on the telly, Thai food in the kitchen—it’s easy to see why this one is a local favourite.
Why it’s our favourite:
It’s one of London’s more distinctive beer gardens, with a relaxed atmosphere that makes it easy to lose track of time.
The Bank of Friendship – Highbury, N5
Tucked away just off Highbury Park, this place is about as ‘neighbourhood gem’ as it gets. The garden is leafy, welcoming, and just the right size for a relaxed catch-up. Better still, you can get Yard Sale Pizza delivered straight to your table. Come on a match day if you fancy some atmosphere—or a sunny Sunday if you’re in the mood for pints and pizza.
Why it’s our favourite:
One of the few places where your pint can come with a slice of pepperoni. Ideal for the bank holiday.
The Albion – Islington, N1
Just off Upper Street but miles away in feel, The Albion is all Georgian charm and understated elegance. Its walled garden is full of blossom trees and whitewashed walls—basically, the kind of place where you go for a roast and accidentally stay all day. Add sunshine and a long weekend to the mix? You'll be transported with its countryside charm.
Why it’s our favourite:
It's a great retreat from busy city life. And their Sunday lunch is amazing.
The Constitution – Camden/Islington borders, N7
A classic Camden pub with a twist—you get canal views with your pint. The outdoor terrace backs right onto the water, making it a bit of a hidden gem. It’s peaceful, a little rustic, and perfect for watching the world (and the barges) go by.
Why it’s our favorite: Drinks by the canal in the sunshine. Could there be a better way to spend a bank holiday?
The Bull – Highgate, N6
For anyone who gets excited about craft beer, The Bull is a must. They brew their own stuff on-site, and it’s always top notch. The garden’s relaxed and spacious, and the whole vibe is friendly without being try-hard. Bring friends, bring family, bring your dog—they’re all welcome.
Why it’s our favourite: Fresh beer, brewed on-site, and a beer garden to enjoy it in.
The Brownswood – Finsbury Park/Manor House, N4
It’s a popular spot right by the park that many visitors might overlook. It’s got a beautiful, chilled-out garden with a mix of covered and open-air seating. The vibe is smart but unpretentious, and they even have boutique rooms upstairs if you ever need to put up family or friends.
Why it’s our favourite:
A pub, a garden, and a guesthouse in one. Ideal if your bank holiday turns into a sleepover.
Thinking of moving to North London?
These pubs are a brilliant reminder of what makes the area special—laid-back, community-minded, and just the right amount of lively. And with the sun out and the bank holiday weekend ahead, it’s a great time to see it all in full swing.
Whether you’re relocating, upsizing or just daydreaming about having a beer garden on your doorstep, we’d love to help you find a home that puts you right in the mix.
